Area Museums -- Great for Families!

The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum. On the first Saturday of most months, the museum has Family Art Adventures, a day to explore the galleries and Docent Art Stations offer games, activities, props and more to help encourage children to engage with the artwork. The Education Center is open all day for experiments and activities based on the current exhibit. Noon-5pm Tuesday-Sunday. $7 adults, free for children 18 and under. Free for everyone on Tuesdays. Hudson River Museum. A cultural complex consisting of galleries, education center, planetarium and the historic Glenview; a Victorian Hudson River home. Katonah Museum. A non-collecting museum with exhibits, educational programs for all ages, and interactive learning lab with computer and video stations. 134 Jay St., Rte. 22, Katonah. 232-9555. www.katonahmuseum.org.

Neuberger Museum of Art. A museum of modern, contemporary and African art. Permanent collections, more than a dozen changing exhibits each year, hands-on workshops, concerts, family festivals and dance performances. Purchase College, 735 Anderson Hill Rd., Purchase. 251-6101. www.neuberger.org.

Stepping Stones Children Museum. A museum for children ages 10 and under designed to promote exploration and discovery with an interactive approach. The Bruce Museum. A natural history, historical and art museum with marine tank, local environmental displays, permanent science exhibition featuring a minerals gallery, changing exhibits, family days, children’s concerts and special events. The Children’s Museum. A museum filled with science and nature learning experiences for kids of all ages with a Travelers Science Dome in the Gengras Planetarium, Roaring Brook Nature Center and a wildlife sanctuary. The multi-level museum has classic exhibits, an excavation station with dig pits and a live alligator, a Kids’ Corner with interactive experiences and more. 10am-5pm Tuesday-Saturday, noon-5pm Sunday. Ages 2 and up. $11. Free for children under 2.
